Grounded in Gratitude: How Terrariums Bring Calm Before the Holidays

Hey y’all!

The holidays are creeping up, and even though it absolutely does not feel like holiday weather here in DFW, the season is still coming fast. This time of year brings excitement, joy, reflection, and sometimes a lot of overwhelm. I know for me, life can get so busy that I have to intentionally slow myself down. Building terrariums has always been one of my favorite ways to pause, breathe, and get grounded.

Someone once called it “creative rest,” and that has stayed with me. You get to create something with your hands in a calm, mindful way, and the beauty of it continues long after the experience itself. It is one of the reasons I love hosting terrarium workshops here in Dallas–Fort Worth.

Why Terrariums Feel Grounding

There is something incredibly soothing about building a terrarium from the very first layer. Watching the biochar, perlite, and moss settle into place, choosing each plant and piece of décor, and arranging everything intentionally inside the glass feels almost meditative.

Terrarium building is a simple and mindful practice that so many people in DFW are beginning to explore, especially through hands-on terrarium workshops and classes. You get to create something beautiful, and then you get to watch it grow and evolve over time. It becomes a reminder that slowing down and caring for something brings its own kind of peace.

The Beauty of Begonias

My first begonia terrarium truly changed my life. I built it at a terrarium workshop taught by the one and only Begonia Legend, Don Miller. I chose a tiny Begonia Dolce Vita, and at the time, I was going through one of the hardest seasons of my life.

With each new leaf, that little begonia grew stronger and more beautiful, and so did I. It became a reflection of my own healing. Each leaf represented progress. Each moment of growth mirrored what I was experiencing within myself.

There are tens of thousands of begonia varieties, each one unique in its shape, color, and pattern. They are some of the most loved plants to use in begonia terrarium workshops throughout Dallas and Fort Worth. No matter your style or personality, there is always a begonia that feels like it was made for you.

The Joy of Community Workshops

It is always a beautiful thing when strangers come together around plants. You never know exactly what the energy will be like until everyone arrives, but every single time, something special unfolds.

People help each other, encourage each other, and laugh together. There is an ease and warmth that fills the room, almost like everyone already knows each other. Plants have a way of bringing people together, and it is one of my favorite parts of being a workshop facilitator.

This is one of the reasons I love hosting terrarium workshops in the DFW area. It is community, creativity, and connection all in one place.

Grounded in Gratitude: This Saturday

Grounded in Gratitude came to me because I truly am grateful to be on this journey. I have walked through some incredibly hard things, and I am thankful every day for where I am now.

In The Secret, it talks about how having an attitude of gratitude opens the door for more to be grateful for and I have found that to be true in my life. I am grateful for plants, for terrariums, and for every person and experience this little business has brought my way.

I would love to share this with you.
There are five tickets left for this weekend’s DFW terrarium workshop.
